Campbell Residence: August 2007

August 1, 2007 -- Campbell's sign is in place at the end of his driveway.

August 1, 2007 -- Footers are dug and steel is in place. Inspection will be scheduled for tomorrow.

August 1, 2007 -- The foundation for the two chimneys is large. It has a good bit of steel in it.

August 1, 2007 -- The vertical piers and walls have steel in them that ties to the footer steel. The white posts are grade stakes to help get the concrete the correct height.

August 2, 2007 -- Bricks for the foundation have arrived. They will be installed in a few days.

August 2, 2007 -- The footers are dug and have steel in them. The inspection is scheduled for this morning. Footers will be poured this afternoon if all goes well with the inspection.

August 2, 2007 -- The footers are being poured. The rebar is to firmly anchor the piers and anchors that are going to be built on the footers.

August 2, 2007 -- The far footers require extensions on the concrete truck. With some houses, the truck can drive to each side. Campbell's lot is very wooded and that is not possible.

August 6, 2007 -- Blocks have been delivered. Today, the batter boards will be checked, strings pulled and blocks laid.

August 6, 2007 -- The footers were completed on Thursday. The house is built on one continuous footer to give it maximum stability.

August 7, 2007 -- The block walls are going up. At various places around the curtain wall, blocks are turned sideways for venting.

August 7, 2007 -- This is the rear view of the home. Note the laser transom on the right edge of the photo. This helps the masons keep the foundation level.

August 8, 2007 -- The foundation wall is going up. The weather is very hot (the heat index is 110 or so) and that slows things down a bit.

August 8, 2007 -- The long driveway has a low rope fence so drivers stay off the fairway. It is low to allow golfers to cross it.

August 9, 2007 -- Block is being laid for the house. The garage is being laid out this afternoon. It will be built on a monolithic slab.

August 10, 2007 -- You can see the faint orange line on the ground just to the left of the shovel. This will be the south east corner of the garage.

August 10, 2007 -- This is the view of the house from where the side door of the garage will be located.

August 13, 2007 -- The garage footers are being dug. Inspection should be today. Concrete is planned for later today or tomorrow.

August 13, 2007 -- The block work is about finished. Very hot weather and heavy rain delayed the work a little. Brick work will start as soon as the block work is finished.

August 14, 2007 -- The garage is ready for inspection. The poly is down as well as the steel in the footers.

August 14, 2007 -- The house and garage are located close together. A walkway will be built from the house side door to the garage walk door.

August 14, 2007 -- The block work will be finished today. A bond beam and garage inspection will be tomorrow. The bond beam will be poured Thursday. The garage and under the house will be poured Friday.

August 15, 2007 -- A large conduit is in place to bring power to the garage. Water pipes (lower right corner) are also through the wall.

August 15, 2007 -- The chimney foundation is massive. It is filled with block and will be filled with concrete when the bond beam is poured.

August 15, 2007 -- The bond beam steel is in place. The bond beam inspection is today and concrete is scheduled for tomorrow.

August 15, 2007 -- The dirt under the house is being smoothed. It slopes to the back of the house so if any water does get under the house, it will drain.

August 15, 2007 -- The underhouse dirt is about level. It will take some extra dirt to make sure the water has a smooth path out from under the house.

August 16, 2007 -- These straps will be used to hold down beams under the house. They are embedded a couple of feet in the concrete piers.

August 16, 2007 -- The dust cap will have a plastic vapor barrier under it. The black lines are short pieces of steel to hold the plastic.

August 16, 2007 -- The house and both porches will have concrete dust caps.

August 16, 2007 -- Brick will be laid around the foundation wall beginning today.

August 16, 2007 -- Blocks are installed sideways for ventilation. Hardware cloth and screen is fixed over the vents to keep animals out.

August 16, 2007 -- The Isokern prefab fireplace parts are arriving. Installation will begin next week. The house has two fireplaces.

August 17, 2007 -- Hardware cloth and screen are in place to keep small animals out from under the house.

August 17, 2007 -- The garage slab was poured and finished today. The grey pipes at the back are for power.

August 17, 2007 -- The brick veneer foundation wall is being built. The vents are slightly recessed.

August 17, 2007 -- This is a detail view of the vents. Behind the vent is an insect screen, 1/4" hardware cloth and vents in the block wall.

August 20, 2007 -- The fireplace foundation is being filled with concrete. The bond beam is also being filled.

August 20, 2007 -- Plastic is in place and taped in preparation for pouring the dust cap. It will be done as the concrete hose is worked towards the front of the house.

August 20, 2007 -- The brick curtain wall should be finished tomorrow. Straps are in place in the piers for anchoring the floor system beams.

August 21, 2007 -- The bond beam and dust cap was poured yesterday. All of the concrete for the house and garage is complete. Service yards, sidewalks and such will be poured later.

August 21, 2007 -- The large areas of brick lattice are under the back porch. The front porch will have the same design. Brick work on the foundation should be done today.

August 21, 2007 -- The fireplace locations are being laid out on the fireplace foundation. The Isokerns will be started today.

August 21, 2007 -- This is the fireplace foundation before the Isokerns are started. Notice the anchor bolts and steel straps embedded in the bond beam and piers.

August 21, 2007 -- Power is on the way. A new transformer has been set at the edge of the trees. A line will be run down the driveway this morning. We will have power to the site today.

August 21, 2007 -- The best laid plans of men and mice.... The power company hit a large irrigation line when trenching to install power to the site. It was in the middle of the driveway.

August 22, 2007 -- Two Isokern fireboxes are now in place. The staggered parts at the top are to move the chimney to the outside of the house. The right firebox is lower because is it on the porch.

August 23, 2007 -- The flues are moving towards the outside of the house and turning together. The bondbeam headed straight towards the house will be under the wall between the house and back porch.

August 23, 2007 -- It takes a while to run the offset flues because supporting walls have to be built below them. There is one support wall hidden behind the firebox.

August 23, 2007 -- Brick lattice is in place under what will be the front porch. The brick around the house is complete now.

August 24, 2007 -- The Isokerns flues are up to where they go straight up. The massive concrete block wall behind them provides plenty of support.

August 24, 2007 -- The floor system for the house arrived in three truckloads today. Work will begin on the floor system on Monday.

August 27, 2007 -- The Isokerns are finished. A brick chimney will be built around them. The fireplace surrounds will also be brick.

August 27, 2007 -- Two rows of blocks were laid around the slab. The wall will be built on the block.

August 28, 2007 -- Framing is beginning on the garage. The two rows of blocks on the slab are clearly visible.

August 29, 2007 -- The second story floor joists are being installed. The joists are doubled up under the dormers and an upstairs wall.

August 30, 2007 -- The garage second floor joists are in place and the second floor sub floor is being installed. The joists close together support the dormers and a wall upstairs.

August 30, 2007 -- Firebrick is being installed in the fireboxes. Both fireboxes have herringbone patterns on the sides and back.

August 30, 2007 -- Sill plates are being installed on the house foundation. Floor trusses will be installed on the house foundation soon.

August 31, 2007 -- The firebrick is in both fireboxes. Notice the sill plates near the fireplace are installed. The sill plates for the porches will be installed today, weather permitting.

August 31, 2007 -- The garage framing continues. Pressure treated plywood is used for the bottom row of sheathing.
