Schuld Residence: May 2007



May 1, 2007 -- The exterior of the Schuld residence is getting finished. A small amount of brickwork remains.


May 1, 2007 -- Brick steps will be built here today. A hot tub will be installed on the concrete to the left.


May 1, 2007 -- The roofer is placing the cap on the top of the copper tower.


May 1, 2007 -- The tower is finished. The finial and cap are in place.


May 1, 2007 -- The steps by the hot tub are being built.


May 2, 2007 -- Steps are taking shape. They are filled with scrap brick and mortar to make them strong. They should be finished in the next day or so.


May 2, 2007 -- The back porch steps below the landing are finished. The landing and a step on it will be done very soon.


May 3, 2007 -- The brick steps by the double car garage have been started.


May 3, 2007 -- The service yard posts are filled with concrete and steel. The posts will have caps installed soon.


May 3, 2007 -- The side steps are being built. These are on the north side of the house.


May 3, 2007 -- The last two front columns are being built. They are scheduled for completion tomorrow.


May 3, 2007 -- By the end of the day, there was only one step remaining to be done. These steps and those near the hot tub should be finished in a day or so.


May 7, 2007 -- The steps near the garage doors are near completion.


May 7, 2007 -- The last bit of brick wall near the chimney is erected. A row lock needs to be placed at the top.


May 7, 2007 -- The steps near the hot tub location are finished. The landing has a very nice herringbone pattern.


May 8, 2007 -- This is a view looking down at the steps in the rear of the house. Note the herringbone pattern. If you look carefully, you can see steps going down in the upper left.


May 8, 2007 -- The back porch (and most of the exterior) is painted. Part of the porch will be screened.


May 8, 2007 -- The brick at the end of the back porch is completed. The row lock around the porch is flat as opposed to the sloping row lock around the house.


May 8, 2007 -- This is under the tower. Sheet rock installation is nearly complete. Sheet rock finishing is well underway. Priming should begin in a few days.


May 8, 2007 -- The house is taking on a totally new look with sheet rock installed.


May 9, 2007 -- Mr. Schuld is considering a brick lattice similar to those in the service yards for the house vents. We built one to see how it would look.


May 10, 2007 -- Two days ago, there were four front porch columns, today there are six.


May 10, 2007 -- If you look closely, you can see two columns on each side of the front entrance.


May 14, 2007 -- This a view of the house as it now stands. Exterior painting is nearly complete. Most of the brickwork is done.


May 14, 2007 -- A brick lattice was used for the vents around the house. Most of the remaining work is inside the house.


May 15, 2007 -- Air conditioner condensing units are in the service yards and being installed. They will be turned on in the next week or so.


May 15, 2007 -- The interior trim is being pickled before it is installed. This house will take about 3/4 of a mile of interior trim.


May 17, 2007 -- Interior doors are arriving and being finished. Sheet rock will be ready for painting in a day or so.


May 21, 2007 -- The sheet rock is finished in the house. Interior painting will start in the next day or two.


May 21, 2007 -- The sewing room has a complex ceiling. Only the garages and room over the garage need to have the sheet rock finished.


May 23, 2007 -- An isolation membrane (crack stop) is being applied to the front porch. This will prevent the tile that will be installed on the porch from cracking. The tile will be installed soon.


May 23, 2007 -- Cement board has been installed in the bathrooms to prepare for floor tile.


May 23, 2007 -- The doors are being pickled before they are installed. This set of doors will be installed upstairs.


May 30, 2007 -- The master bath has tile on the floor. A tub will be placed in the wooden frame at the top of the photo.


May 30, 2007 -- Tile is going down in the kitchen area. You can see the concrete board backer at the bottom of the photo.


May 30, 2007 -- This is part of the interior trim for the house. It has been finished and is ready to install.


May 31, 2007 -- The kitchen floor is taking shape. Interior doors are being installed and interior painting is being done.
